“The Way(s) To Heaven”

"There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Proverbs 16:25).

Are there different ways to know God, to be forgiven of sin and to eventually go into heaven when we leave this life? Or, is there only one way? These are very important questions.

Many today believe that there are various roads, ways that will eventually lead a person to heaven, paradise, to the abode of God.

Here are some of the common ideas that people have:
-Some would say, “Just believe that there is a god, some higher power, that a Supreme Being exists and you will be alright.” That is their idea of believing in God.

-Some believe that Christians have their way to heaven and other religions have their gods which are ways to heaven for them, and that since we are all trying to get to the same place, one way must be as good as another.

-Some believe that if people are basically good, honest, moral, kind, fair to others, good citizens and do not commit some really bad sin that they are saved and will die and go into heaven one day.

-Others believe that if a person is religious enough, sincere in his religion, devoted enough, has a great zeal and does a certain kind or amount of good works that this one will be saved and go into heaven.

-Then there is the belief that being in a certain religion, church or denomination is all it takes to get to heaven.

-There are those who believe that a person must be born again of God and must receive Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour to get to heaven. To this statement, some say, “To believe that Jesus is the only way to heaven is just too narrow minded”, or, “That is too old- fashioned.”

Where can we find out for sure? How can we know the real truth? All of these different ideas can not be correct.

The one, true and living God settles this question simply and clearly in the Scriptures. God is a God of truth, and the Scriptures are the Word of truth. So the true answer is a matter of, “What does God say is the way to heaven?”

Consider what God says in His Word about salvation, Jesus Christ, and how to go to heaven one day:

-“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).

-“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that He was seen ...” (I Corinthians 15:3-5). [Only the Lord Jesus Christ died for the sins of man and rose again from the dead with a glorious eternal body.]

-“And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house” (Acts 16:30, 31).

-“...the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, ... Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:10, 12). [COMMENT: The name is a reflection of the person. To believe on the name of Jesus is to believe on Jesus Himself, who He is and what He has done.]

-“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:” (Philippians 3:20). [Jesus is ‘the Saviour’, ‘the Lord’ and ‘Christ’. There is no other Saviour.]

-“But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name” (John 20:31).

-“And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world” (I John 4:14). [COMMENT: The Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, was sent by God the Father to this world. Jesus is the only Saviour.]

-“But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name:” (John 1:12). [COMMENT: A person must personally receive Jesus as his Saviour.]

-“He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:18). [COMMENT: A person is condemned because he does not believe in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. This person is lost and is condemned to hell for ever if he dies in this spiritual condition. To not believe in Jesus is the one sin that causes a person to go into hell.]

-“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” (John 3:36). [COMMENT Only Jesus Christ is the Son of God. A person must receive Jesus as personal Saviour or God’s wrath abides upon him.]

-Jesus said, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture” (John 10:9). [COMMENT: Jesus is the one and only door to salvation. This means there is no other door.]

-“Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because He saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come. And He said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am He, ye shall die in your sins” (John 8:21-24).

-“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11). [COMMENT: This was the angelic announcement of Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem. Jesus is the Saviour, the Christ, and the Lord.]

-“And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard Him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world” (John 4:42). [COMMENT: They heard the One that the woman had heard, Jesus: John 4:7, 10, 26 etc.]

-“God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that He hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee” (Acts 13:33).

-“Which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:” (Ephesians 1:20, 21).

-“For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:” (Romans 8:3). [COMMENT: God’s own Son is the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus died for our sins.]

-“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory” (I Timothy 3:16). [COMMENT: Jesus is God manifest in the flesh of man. The eternal God the Son came to earth and was made flesh. Only the Lord Jesus Christ is the God- man.]

-“And this is His commandment, That we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He gave us commandment” (I John 3:23). [COMMENT: God commands people to believe upon His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.]

-“But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:7-11).

-“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (I John 5:13).

-“And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God” (I Corinthians 6:11).

-“But unto the Son He saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom” (Hebrews 1:8). [In this verse God the Father addresses His Son, Jesus Christ, as ‘God’. Jesus is God. He is God the Son. Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, and He is God the Son.]

-“Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:8, 9). [The warning is given by the Lord, don’t allow anyone to lead you toward any other except Christ. There are many deceivers who will attempt to do this. Jesus Christ is fully God, the one, true and living God]

-“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us” (Matthew 1:21-23). [Jesus is the only man that has been born of a virgin. Jesus was given the name of Emmanuel, which means ‘God with us’. Jesus is God, God the Son. There is no one like the Lord Jesus Christ! Jesus truly is unique.]

- “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;” (Titus 2:13). [Jesus is the Saviour, and He is the Christ. There is no other Saviour and there is no other Christ, Messiah.]

-“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you. Who by Him do believe in God, that raised Him up from the dead, and gave Him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God” (I Peter 1:18-21). [COMMENT: Every saved person has been redeemed with the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Only by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ can a person believe in the one, true and living God.]

-“That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent Him” (John 5:23). [COMMENT: A person can honour Jesus by believing upon Him, trusting in Him, believing the gospel of Christ, and receiving Him as personal Saviour. This honours God the Father. If a person does not honour Jesus, then he does not honour God.]

-“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? She saith unto Him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world” (John 11:25-27). [COMMENT: Jesus Himself is ‘the resurrection’, and He is ‘the life’. There is no spiritual life, no eternal life outside of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Lord. Jesus is the Christ. Jesus is the Son of God that came into the world as a man.]

Jesus is the One that all of God’s prophets gave witness to:
-“But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all His prophets, that Christ should suffer, He hath so fulfilled” (Acts 3:18).

-“To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His name whosoever believeth in Him shall receive remission of sins” (Acts 10:43).

God sent preachers to tell others about His Son, Jesus Christ:
-“Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus” (Acts 8:35). [COMMENT: The ‘same scripture’ was in Isaiah 53.]

God the Father bare witness of Jesus as His Son:
-“And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). [COMMENT: Jesus was well pleasing to God the Father. Jesus is the beloved Son of God.]

-“While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him” (Matthew 17:5).

A person must be born again, born of God, a spiritual birth, to enter heaven. “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3).

-“But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:12, 13). [COMMENT: When a person receives Jesus Christ, believes on His name, as Saviour, that person will be born spiritually of God and given eternal life.]

To not believe these Scriptures is to disbelieve God Himself and to call Him a liar. God can not lie, that is impossible. He is a God of truth. Every word of God is true. The devil is a liar.

CONCLUSION:

Truth is not determined by what the majority of people believe, nor by feelings. Truth is not determined by popularity. Truth is determined by the one, true and living God. He determines who it is that will enter into His heaven. He has clearly revealed this in His Word, the Bible, that only those who are born again of Him, that have received Jesus as personal Saviour, will be saved and be eternally in heaven. (Those that die as babies, young children, and those that never come to the point of accountability are safe and go to be with the Lord in heaven when they die.) God has made it simple to enter in His heaven. But the way may not be what the majority believe, nor what the popular idea might currently be. The big problem is when a person will not accept the truth of what God says in His Word. This is a choice that every person makes, to believe God or not to believe God, and there are eternal consequences for the person for either decision.

Jesus is absolutely unique. There is no other one like Him. There is no substitute, nor alternative for receiving Jesus Christ as personal Saviour in order to be saved and to one day go to be with the Lord in heaven.

Jesus is unique in that only He:
-Is the Christ, the Messiah. He is the Lord Jesus Christ.
-Is the eternal only begotten Son of God.
-Is God incarnate (God in the flesh of man).
-Is Emmanuel, ‘God with us’. (See the Booklet: “Jesus: Is He God?”)
-Is the sinless man. (Jesus was tempted just as we are, yet He never sinned.)
-Is the only virgin-born man.
-Willingly went to the cross of Calvary, suffered for us, shed His blood and died for the sins of mankind.
-Rose again from death the third day by His own power.
-Ascended into heaven and was exalted by God the Father to sit at His right hand on His throne.
-Has a name above every name. His name is the only name a person must believe on to be saved.
-Is the only sacrifice that is acceptable to God the Father for the payment of the sins of man.
-Is the Saviour of mankind.
-Is eternal life.

It is logical, reasonable and true that the Lord Jesus Christ is the one and only Saviour that there is for mankind. If a person does not believe the Word of God and thus does not receive Jesus as his personal Saviour in this present life, he will die and go into the torments of hell and exist there forever in those torments.

Jesus is the one and only way to heaven. It would be wise for you to believe God and to receive Jesus as your personal Saviour, and then heaven becomes your home, but if you reject Jesus as your personal Saviour you will not go into heaven. Jesus is the only way.

Thanks be unto God that He provided such a glorious and wonderful way to avoid hell and to go to heaven. The Way is the only begotten Son of God. Jesus is the Way!
